- I always thought it was funny that Sisko is in the middle of ordering some food at Quark's (Alterian chowder and uttaberry crepes) towards the beginning of this episode. I don't know, it's so rare to see him hanging out in Quark's in general, and then it's so rare to see ANYONE ordering food from a waiter. Sisko looks so into making his order, too.
- I love Bashir and O'Brien's conversation about love and marriage here. One of the first big Bashir/O'Brien bonding episodes (so shortly after the "Rivals" episode, too).
- Although the audience always knows that O'Brien and Bashir aren't dead, it's interesting getting to see how the crew might react to multiple of their senior officers dying unexpectedly. Kira and Quark's values are so different, which is apparent in the scene where Quark makes a eulogy, so it's also interesting seeing them have a kind of sincere emotional moment together here too.
- Top tier Keiko episode. Keiko O'Brien and the Gettier case about her husband's death.
- The dynamic where Julian is so earnestly "having gone through a trial together, we're best friends now" at the end of this episode and Miles is like "mm are we though" is so great. XD
Quodo potential:
- Yeah, I've got nothing. I suppose, once again, Odo and Quark are missing any kind of subplot in this episode, so you could write them a fresh one. To go along with the themes of the episode, maybe something where they're reacting to Bashir and O'Brien's death? Or where one of Quark or Odo thinks about how he'd react to the other's death? Or write a similar plot for them -- Quark dying and Odo needing to get help? One of them in trouble and the other one able to help rescue because he knows the other so well? IDK.
