Quodo in Every Episode discussion: "Babel"

This week we're discussing... episode 1x05 "Babel"!

Episode synopsis: An aphasia virus dating from the construction of Terok Nor is activated and begins to infect the whole station, rendering people unable to communicate.

What The Boys are up to in this episode: Oh, this is a very Quodo episode -- almost all of their scenes are together, and it is a plot point that, since they're one of the few people not affected by the virus, they end up needing to work together to save the day. Various scenes: (1) Odo notices business is slow (Quark's replicators are broken) and rescues Quark from an angry customer. (2) After Quark finds a solution to his replicator problem, he invites Kira and Dax to eat at his bar. (3) Odo confronts Quark about keeping his bar open during quarantine. (4) Odo catches Quark accessing crew quarters without authorization. (5) Quark tries to recoup money from sick customers. (6) Odo discusses the virus with the senior officers. (7) Odo visits Quark in his now-empty bar and warns him not to steal anything on the Promenade as he will be busy assisting Sisko in Ops. (8) Quark assists Odo in getting to the docking ring to avert an explosion and pretends not to be worried about him after the explosion goes off.

Co-signing basically everything people have written here. It's a great early episode, particularly for Quark and Odo and really makes them shippable and nails their dynamic so well. I hooted when Quark showed up as a hero (Odo gets so frazzled and neurotic when he's out of his element! I wanted to give him a pat, there there goop man, the stressful thing is over XD).

I'd love to see a fic where Odo does just take Quark up on the offer to teach him dabo... The idea of Odo taking care of a sick Quark is great, too and he'd worry, hehe.

It really is a great early Quodo episode. Someone once said that Odo strikes them as someone with an anxiety disorder and I definitely see it. The man does NOT handle stress well. XD

I'm kind of imagining that if Quark tried to teach Odo dabo, Odo would keep acting confused and asking dumb questions on purpose and asking why design the rules this way instead of this better way, until Quark gives up out of frustration lol. Quodo sickfic would be cute...

Oooo, yeee I can see it going that way (but then Odo is kind of sad it's over, but he would never admit that to himself or anyone).

I'd looove some Quodo sickfic, I should remember to see what's out there when I can finally get back to reading fic again. >3>

Yeppp Odo's got a lot of autistic traits going on for sure.

I've seen a few Quodo sickfics out there, but surprisingly not that many. I hope they scratch the itch once you have time to check them out!
