Quodo in Every Episode discussion: "Behind the Lines"
This week we're discussing... episode 6x04 "Behind the Lines"!
Episode synopsis: The fourth episode in the six-part Dominion occupation arc that opens season 6: On the station, Kira and Rom carry out resistance activities, but urgent problems arise when the Female Founder comes aboard the station and links with Odo, and Damar discovers a way to deactivate the minefield. Rom is arrested trying to sabotage the deflector array to prevent the minefield from being brought down. Meanwhile, in Federation space, Sisko is promoted to a strategic position under Admiral Ross and waits anxiously as Dax captains the Defiant for the first time for a dangerous mission.
What The Boys are up to in this episode: At the beginning of this episode, Quark is in the bar and tries to intervene in a fight between Damar and some Jem'Hadar. Odo heavily features in this episode, responding to the fight, arguing with Kira over station resistance activities and other things, reuniting with the Female Founder and talking and linking with her, and sitting in on both council meetings with Dukat and Weyoun and resistance meetings with Kira, Jake, and Rom. After plying Damar with alcohol, Quark discovers Damar is close to bringing down the wormhole minefield and takes this information to Kira's resistance cell. The episode ends with Odo, having linked with the Founder, indifferent to the fact that Rom was caught due to Odo's actions (or lack thereof).

- Hm. I feel like having Kira narrate the events leading up to this bar fight is a bit awkward.
- I like the first conversation between Odo and the Female Founder. Not a big fan of the second one, in his quarters. The pining for Kira grates on me.
- Kira and Damar's antagonism is really great. One of my favorite things about this arc (it builds up so much throughout these episodes), and also just DS9 in general.
- I do love Kira's angry reaction when Odo admits he linked with the Female Founder. It's so good.
- Lol, I love alcoholic Damar and drunk Quark. We so rarely get to see Quark drunk, and it amuses me that it's when he's trying to keep up with Damar.
- The ending of this episode is bananas. XD Odo just high in Link-land, and the Female Founder was standing there the entire time while Kira incriminates her, Rom, and Odo in a conspiracy to sabotage the station, and Odo is just like "B)" Top 10 anime betrayals...
Overall, I like this set of episodes, including Odo's weird behavior during them. I feel like this episode in particular is good for establishing various things about how Changelings work.
Quodo potential:
- Okay but imagine: drunk Quark falling asleep on Odo. =w=
- I do feel like there's potential to have Quark to have a conversation with Odo regarding linking and the Female Founder too, but I'm not sure if I would put it in this episode or the next one...
- I suppose there's also potential for Quark and Odo to have a scene together after the barfight -- Quark got tossed over the bar (I wonder how many times this happens to him, lol!) and Odo and his officers show up after the fight to restore order, so you could have a little scene where Odo picks Quark up and asks him if he's okay or something like that.
