Quodo in Every Episode discussion: "The Storyteller"
Another season 1 episode this week -- we've had quite a few so far. This week we're discussing... episode 1x14 "The Storyteller"!
Episode synopsis: When Bashir and O'Brien are called to Bajor to treat the sick storyteller of a village, O'Brien ends up being appointed the next Sirah, tasked with preventing the village's destruction at the hands of a monster. Meanwhile, Sisko is asked to mediate a land dispute between two Bajoran factions, one led by a teenage girl who is unwilling to make any concessions out of a fear of showing weakness, and who is quickly befriended by Nog and Jake.
What The Boys are up to in this episode: Quark has a couple scenes: a brief one where he brings refreshments to the negotiation room and ends up making a mess of things by treating Varis as a little girl, and then one shortly afterward when the major comes to his bar in need of some strong drink. Odo appears several times throughout the episode, mainly to harumph at Jake and Nog for being disorderly on the station.

- Love Sisko saying it's not his first time up at the plate and Kira is just like "Sir?"
- I understand why O'Brien would find Bashir annoying, but Bashir is being so earnest here and just wants to be FRIENDS, you kinda feel bad for him. XD
- "I have never seen anything so beautiful" / "(apathetically) She's all right" is such a good Jake &/ Nog dynamic.
- Jake and Nog having zero game but being so delighted when their efforts are successful is so funny and cute. Every time they look at each other victoriously kills me X3
- Lots of visual effects on this one!
- I love the plot of this episode being like: "You're the one destined to save this village." O'Brien: "...I am literally the definition of 'just some guy.'"
- Lol Bashir and O'Brien vs. the Sirah's apprentice is a great fight scene. Love Bashir's expressions when the knife is turned on him.
- Miles chuckling when he realizes he doesn't have to be the Sirah anymore -- so funny. XD
It doesn't really surprise me that this episode barely has any fanfics for it -- it is cute but kind of forgettable and very standalone (i.e. no other episode really turns on this one, aside from the Bashir-O'Brien friendship arc (which IS very long-running and which this episode is the first episode for, I think)). A very "season 1" episode -- more episodic/TNG-esque, focused on Bajor and its culture and reconstruction after Cardassian occupation, and featuring a very silly sci-fi mechanic.
Thoughts on Quodo potential:
- Hm, both Quark and Odo have good scenes in this episode, but their plots are largely not related. It wouldn't be particularly shippy, but you could have a scene where one reacts to silly things happening to the other, like Odo making fun of Quark for earning the wrath of a teenage girl, or Quark making fun of Odo for having his bucket stolen or something like that. Or maybe the two of them commenting on Jake and Nog's attempts at having a love life.
