Hi all,

Quodo Mini-fest II is starting in about a month, in January! The schedule will be the same as last year, namely:

Sign-ups: 1-15 Jan
Assignments go out the next day
Works due: 10 Feb
Work reveals: 14 Feb (Valentine's Day)

The purpose of this post is to collect feedback and any suggestions about how I should run the mini-fest this year.

There are a few changes I am considering making for this year:

1) Adding rating/explicitness as a matching criteria. From last year, it seemed like preferences of having/not having explicit/adult content was the most frequent note people left in their sign-ups, so I am considering adding it as a criteria for matching. Basically, when people sign up, they will need to select either "SFW" or "NSFW" or both, depending on what they are interested in receiving, and then select from the same options when offering depending on what they're comfortable making. For example, if someone only selects "NSFW", they'll only be matched to someone who offered "NSFW". But if someone selects both "SFW" and "NSFW", they are capable of being matched to anyone. I'm not familiar enough with AO3 exchange settings to figure out for sure if this is possible, but assuming it is, would people appreciate adding these sorts of preferences to matching?

2) Speaking of matching, last year I ended up hand-matching because for some reason AO3 wouldn't assign me to someone even though it should have been possible to give everyone an assignment, including me. But I ended up enjoying the process of hand-matching a lot so I will do it again! This year I'm considering (where possible) using hand-matching to give everyone who participated last year a new recipient and also a new creator so that they'll be creating for someone new this year and will get a gift from someone new. I hope this sounds okay!

3) Changing the timezone of deadlines to PST (UTC-8). Last year, I used 11:59 PM in my own timezone (GMT) for deadlines. I think this confused people who were in U.S. timezones as this made deadlines in the early evening. In general, it might be nice to give people one last evening to finalize and submit their work, so a deadline in the evening on the west coast would give most people the chance to do that. And a deadline in PST would be 7:59 AM in my time, which allows me to do mod work shortly after the deadline passes, when I'm awake. Would people prefer this change to deadline times?

Let me know if you have any other suggestions for improvement! Anonymous commenting is on so you do not need an account to leave a comment.
