Hi everyone! Believe it or not, in four days, it will have been one year since we started the Quodo in Every Episode project (I posted the challenge information on March 23rd, and our first discussion was on March 24th). In the time since, we have discussed 47 of ST:DS9's 170 episodes (or 28%). The season with the most episodes discussed is season 1 with 10/20 episodes, while the season with the fewest episodes is season 4 with only 4/26.

Now that we are approaching this one-year milestone, I'd actually like to take some time to check in and ask if this event is working for you. Participation has dropped off quite a bit since the start, and for a while now, I've been the only one responding to episode discussions. I don't mind talking to myself (I will always enjoy a DS9 rewatch and I have fun discussing each episode with my partner), but it also makes me wonder if the interest is still there and, if so, if there are some obvious and easy things I could do to make it easier for people who want to participate to do so. Namely:

- Should I switch the discussions to be in chronological (broadcast) order? Originally, I decided on a random order because (1) I thought the random order would make it easy for someone to drop in and out of the event as their time allows, as missing some episode discussions wouldn't affect your ability to join the next conversation without having to catch up, (2) the element of surprise of what episode is under discussion each week, and (3) to mix things up between early and late seasons for the sake of variety, especially since early seasons Quodo is very different from late seasons Quodo. However, I think the main issue with doing the random order is that if someone is using this event to watch DS9 with someone who hasn't seen the show before, the random episode ordering just really doesn't work.

So: would people prefer to switch to a linear ordering of episode discussions? It would be a fairly simple change. I would probably just go through each episode in order and post a mix of catch-up posts and new episode discussions. For example, I would start with a catch-up post for the first three episodes (1x01/02 "Emissary" and 1x03 "Past Prologue") where people can watch or review the episode transcripts and post their thoughts on those on existing discussion posts, before moving on to a new discussion for 1x04 "A Man Alone", then the next week, I'd post a catch-up for 1x05 "Babel" plus new discussion for 1x06 "Captive Pursuit", and just keep progressing like that.

- Should I slow down the pace and give people more time to add their thoughts? Currently I do one episode a week but I'm happy to slow down the pace. I'm not in a rush, and it would give me more time to peruse Quodo fics lol.

- Something else? Change up the format, add some fic-writing challenges to encourage people to write or chat about what they're writing, something else preventing you from participating that I haven't thought of?

This week we're discussing... episode 7x02 "Shadows and Symbols"!

Episode synopsis: Ezri Dax introduces herself to the Siskos and accompanies them on a trip to find answers about Ben's mother Sarah. Meanwhile, Worf, O'Brien, Bashir, and, unexpectedly, Quark serve on a mission to Dominion space daring enough to ensure Jadzia a place in Sto-vo-kor. Meanwhile, Odo accompanies Kira on a potentially suicidal face-off against Senator Cretak over Romulan armaments furtively placed on one of Bajor's moons.

What The Boys are up to in this episode: Quark is a late arrival aboard Martok's Rotarran and has several scenes aboard the ship where he complains, needles Worf, and basically is just a fish out of water on a Klingon ship. Odo has a scene where he discusses Kira's blockade plan with her and then accompanies her as she leads the small fleet of Bajoran ships blocking Romulans from advancing, comparing her favorably to a character from one of his detective books. They both show up briefly at the end to be surprised by the arrival of a new Dax on the station.

Hi everyone! Our final day of reveals -- in addition to the Day 1 and Day 2 works, we have three more works today: a longfic and a couple of delayed gifts!

• Stuck Together by cool_ha_ha for spacedogfromspace. Odo and Quark's arms get attached to each other and they have to stay together until they can find the merchant responsible for the situation.


• Stuck on You by chacusha for spacedogfromspace. Odo and Quark get stuck together (literally). The station has their laughs.

Episode synopsis: A killer with a vendetta is taking out members of the Shakaar resistance cell one by one, with Kira as the ultimate/main target.

What The Boys are up to in this episode: Odo appears throughout the episode, responding to the murders, speculating on the murderer's methods, motive, identity, etc., and trying to prevent Kira from going after the murderer herself. Quark appears in one scene, where he has a PADD addressed to Kira with a message from the killer on it.

This week we're discussing... episode 5x15 "By Inferno's Light"!

Episode synopsis: The continuation of "In Purgatory's Shadow" -- Bashir, Worf, and Garak have to figure out how to escape the Dominion camp and alert the station of the Changeling Bashir, which is more difficult now that Tain is dead. Meanwhile, Dukat announces that Cardassia has made an alliance with the Dominion. The Federation, Klingons, and Romulans prepare for a big confrontation with the Dominion at DS9, but the Dominion has another plan involving just one runabout piloted by the Changeling Bashir.

What The Boys are up to in this episode: Quark has a single scene with Ziyal in his bar where he complains that the imminent Dominion victory will ruin his business opportunities. Odo is mentioned a couple of times but never appears!

This week we're discussing... episode 2x24 "The Collaborator"!

Episode synopsis: A collaborator who has information regarding the circumstances of the suicide of Prylar Bek during the occupation gives Vedek Winn the chance to sink Bareil's candidacy for kai. Kira finds herself pressured into investigating Bareil's role in the Cardassian massacre of Bajoran resistance fighters in Kendra Valley and the prylar's ensuing suicide.

What The Boys are up to in this episode: Odo has several scenes where he arrests Kubus and helps Kira investigate the communication that happened between the Vedek Assembly and Prylar Bek shortly before his suicide. Quark has one scene with Odo, where Odo and Kira press Quark into unsealing a locked file in the Vedek Assembly's records.

This week we're discussing... episode 6x05 "Favor the Bold"! (Also, sorry for not announcing with a post here, but Quodo Mini-fest V sign-ups are now open! You have until Friday 10 January to sign up. Yayayay!)

Episode synopsis: The fifth episode in the six-part Dominion occupation arc that opens season 6: Things are not going well on the station as Rom is scheduled for execution and the minefield blocking the wormhole is about to come down. Unable to get Odo to take action, Kira presses Ziyal to speak to Dukat on Rom's behalf, leading to a breakdown in Ziyal and Dukat's relationship. The Federation moves up the timeline of its operation to retake DS9 when it hears about the imminent removal of the minefield.

What The Boys are up to in this episode: Quark attempts unsuccessfully to gain admittance to Odo's quarters to speak to Odo; visits his brother in his cell and promises to get him out; finds out from Damar that the minefield is coming down; and urges Kira to send a message to the Federation. Odo has two scenes where he converses with the female changeling, and then tries to apologize to Kira, who does not accept the apology.

I'm posting a bit early today because I'm traveling. Depending on how busy I am over the holidays, I might push the next episode discussion back a week, but we'll see. This week we're discussing... episode 5x21 "Soldiers of the Empire"! Happy holidays, everyone!

Episode synopsis: Worf is asked to accompany Martok on his first mission after being rescued from Internment Camp 371. Dax also joins the mission and she and Worf soon realize that the fear that Martok has been broken by his time in the camp threatens morale and order on the whole ship.

What The Boys are up to in this episode: Odo has a short scene towards the beginning where he follows some members of the crew of the Rotarran into Quark's bar and points out one of them is wearing a necklace of Cardassian neck bones. Quark doesn't appear.
